Signs and Symptoms You May Benefit From Going To Therapy
Does this sound familiar?
Your mind goes to the worst-case scenario and you find yourself stuck in a spiral of doom.
Irritated and short-fused with everyone even though you can rationally talk yourself down after the fact.
Feeling lost and sad about your “old life” and though you feel generally happy about your baby, you still miss the ease of being baby-free. Even our partner may not fully understand, adding to the feelings of isolation and lack of support.
Life is getting hard to handle and you feel overwhelmed. Over-tired. Over…it.

Yes, therapy can be highly effective in treating postpartum depression as well as other reproductive-related mental health challenges such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), infertility-related stress, and menopause-related mood changes. The gender of a therapist is a personal preference. Some women feel more comfortable discussing certain issues with a female therapist due to shared experiences or perceived understanding. However, many male therapists are well-trained and empathetic to women's issues. The most important factor is the therapeutic relationship and the therapist's competence in addressing the client's specific concerns.

While the foundational principles of therapy remain consistent regardless of gender, therapy for women often addresses specific issues and challenges that women face in their lives. This can include topics related to reproductive health, societal expectations, gender roles, motherhood, body image, and experiences of sexism or gender-based violence. Therapists may also incorporate feminist or woman-centered approaches to empower female clients and address systemic issues.
