Specializing in Perinatal Mental Health, Reproductive Mental Health, Parenting, Trauma and Nervous System Regulation.

I know what it’s like to envision your fertility journey your entire life and then learn that the path isn’t going to be as seamless as you imagined.

I, much like you, know what it’s like to dream of your children, and yet month after month, getting a negative pregnancy test.

I understand the toll it takes on your relationship, not to mention your sense of self-worth.

It’s grueling and there’s no running away from it because it’s happening with your body.

Feeling stuck is something I’m familiar with.

I always knew where I wanted to be, but didn’t know how to get there. It’s like I had this outline in front of me, perfectly planned out, yet those first steps eluded me. From career, to relationships, fertility, and parenting, I envisioned it all but always felt like something was holding me back.

I felt like a failure.

If I wasn’t doing it perfectly and with a smile on my face, then I had to be failing. Right?

Thankfully, I could not have been more wrong.

I decided to start doing my own personal work to figure out who the heck I am. With the support and compassion of my incredible therapist, I was able to recognize that the outline of life had to go in the trash and instead be replaced with what actually felt right for me.

I had to face the traumas of my past and begin to heal from what caused me to feel stuck. It was so hard and yet nothing has been more rewarding. I started to understand who I truly am and what brings me joy, not just what looks good on paper.

Struggling With Infertility - It’s okay that it sucks

It’s not easy for everyone to get pregnant.

Trying to conceive colored the way I approached every aspect of life. I saw through a singular lens, fertility. If it wasn’t helping me put a baby in my belly, then it wasn’t on my radar. This single-focused mentality affected my romantic and personal life. If I had to do things perfectly earlier in life, then this self-proclaimed, reformed perfectionist was going to PERFECT fertility.

In my fight with perfectionism, I started reverting back to old habits and needed to remember balance and patience. I was grasping at this idea of my perfect baby and realized I was missing out on everything I did have going on in my life.

I was missing out on what was right in front of me.

Infertility is a silent battle many face, often accompanied by a whirlwind of emotions - from hope to despair, from excitement to frustration. Every negative pregnancy test felt like a personal failure, a cruel reminder of the dreams that had been unfulfilled.

The societal pressure and the often unsolicited advice from well-meaning friends and family only added to the weight. Questions like 'When are you starting a family?' became a painful sting, a reminder of the struggle I was privately enduring.

Yet, through this journey, I learned the importance of self-compassion, of understanding that it's okay to grieve, to be angry, and to seek support. Infertility isn't just a medical challenge; it's an emotional roller coaster, and it's okay to acknowledge the toll it takes.

These struggles helped me to become the therapist I am today. Whether my clients are coming to me because their past keeps creeping up on them, they’re navigating their fertility journey, dealing with becoming a mom, or navigating parenting, I help my clients listen to the wisdom of their bodies and learn to give a voice to any and all parts of themselves. I utilize a blend of Somatic therapy and an Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach to help my clients become internally aligned. I believe that everyone has the ability to live the life of their dreams. That life may just look a little different than they originally expected.

Frequently Asked Questions About Perinatal Mental Health and Somatic Therapy

  • Perinatal mental health refers to the emotional and psychological well-being of women during pregnancy and the postnatal period (typically up to one year after childbirth). It encompasses a range of mood disorders that mothers can experience, including depression, anxiety, and more severe conditions like postpartum psychosis.

  • Perinatal mental health issues are more common than many realize. It's estimated that up to 20% of women experience mood or anxiety disorders during the perinatal period. However, the exact prevalence can vary based on factors like location, culture, and access to healthcare.

  • Symptoms can vary but often include persistent sadness, excessive worry or panic attacks, feelings of hopelessness or guilt, difficulty bonding with the baby, withdrawing from loved ones, changes in appetite or sleep patterns, and in severe cases, thoughts of harming oneself or the baby.

  • Somatic therapy is a holistic therapeutic approach that integrates the mind and body in the healing process. It recognizes that trauma and stress can manifest physically in the body, leading to physical symptoms and ailments. Through techniques like deep breathing, movement exercises, and guided visualization, somatic therapy helps individuals release pent-up tension and trauma, facilitating emotional and physical healing. By focusing on the body's sensations and responses, individuals can uncover and address deeper emotional issues and patterns.
